Dell Studio XPS Laptop Intel Centrino 2 Duo Etc Etc Big Very Good Computer, Keyboard Keys Missing/Broken…?
A couple months ago, around maybe 6, I bought this big expensive computer that can handle Blu-Ray movies and Top of the line “Needy” Games, and my Ctrl keys and Backspace keys broke… And I didn’t even do much to break them. I’m so mad… I can’t even find the right keyboard to buy so I can fix it and Dell won’t help me out, what do I do? No silly/negative/bad comments I will report bad comments, I WILL CHOOSE A BEST ANSWER!!!
You don’t have to worry at all. Your laptop is 6 months old so it must be under warranty coz usually all dell machines come with minimum one year warranty but you may need to check your order details on www.support.dell.com to check the kind of warranty it has. You need to enter the system service tag to get details about your laptop. Check it under warranty status or warranty information.
If it has a normal warranty, still you can get the keyboard replaced and here is how you need to go about it.
Contact dell phone support or chat support.
Don’t blame the support or dell because if customer is already dissatisfied, they would not care to go an extra mile to do a goodwill gesture for you by replacing a physically broken keyboard keys under normal warranty.
Simply tell that so and so keys have popped out and you tried putting them back but they don’t stay there. Don’t say anything else. They will ask you if you dropped the laptop by mistake and things like that to ensure if the keys popped out due to an accident but simply say that while typing they popped out with time. Nothing else.
Be patient with the support person, I’m sure they will replace the keyboard.
Note: the popped out keys can’t be replaced individually so the entire keyboard replacement is the only option. Don’t argue over it.
They will ask you if you are comfortable replacing the keyboard yourself, if they send the steps to replace it. Either do it yourself, or they might ask you to send the computer to dell repair center (dell depot) which will take a few days. They will send a box for packing the laptop and pre paid shipping way bill. It is very less likely that they will send a technician at your home to replace the broken keyboard so i would not suggest arguing over it.
All the best!
