Help in buying a laptop?
Just wanted to know the minimum one should get when purchasing a laptop as far as everything internal goes? I prefer to get the Windows XP Professional OS. Also is buying a refurbished computer okay such as on Overstock.com?

Plan to use this for home based business, internet and college work. I can’t afford a MAC, and am not sure which brand is the most reliable and well made. Thank you.
First off, stay away from Macs. They are overprice and overvalued. They are inferior to pc laptops. People pay 50% more for macs just to show off, but in reality they bought an inferior machine.
Go with HP or Dell. Whatever model you get, make sure it has at least
core 2 Dual
3gb of ram
at least 150gb of harddrive
wireless b/g/n
windows vista or xp
anything you like you can add on, but those above are essentials
When you are in school, programs like word, excel, powerpoint, access and outlook are all made for windows. Sure macs can run them, but you need to buy mac versions and sometimes parallel programs to run them. Why go through all that trouble when you can run it straight on a pc laptop? Also a lot of times, you will be asked to use programs for class that is not compatible with macs. This can cause a bit of a hassle when it comes to projects and homeworks.
